This post is about Darnell Phillips moving into a new
direction in life. I will graduate in a few weeks with a Masters Degree in
Entertainment Business, and I must give a moment of reflection and time to give
a “SHOUT OUT” to the school I have attended, by the name of Full Sail University. This school has helped me carve out my dreams in more ways than
one. I feel that the education that I have received has given me the
self-esteem and the knowledge to start a business, keep it sustainable, and
watch it grow. I think the school is a great resource for anyone interested in
learning in attaining a dream in the entertainment industry.
The year was 1991 and a recording engineer at Malaco Records by the name of Jerry Masters gave a small 4 x 5 book with no pictures on the inside and the Full Sail logo on the front. But it gave a very descriptive view of the school through the words on the pages. He is one of the great pioneers of Rock and Roll as a musician, songwriter, and engineer. Has has worked with people such as Charlie Rich, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart, Paul Simon, Burt Reynolds, Bob Seger, Liza Minelli, Donny Osmond, Jerry Lee Lewis, Steve Winwood, Paul Anka, Wayne Newton, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Rivers, Cat Stevens, Boz Scaggs, Ronny and the Daytonas, The Hombres, Clarence Carter, The Osmonds, Wilson Pickett, J.J. Cale, Bobby Womack, Leon Russell, Luther Ingram, Jim Capaldi, Canned Heat, Percy Sledge, Candi Staton, Simon & Garfunkle, Blackfoot, Mary MacGregor, Kim Carnes, Dr. Hook, Foxy, Mac Davis, Rita Coolidge, Andy Williams, Peter Yarrow, and Traffic. (Hanging From A Tree Made By My Knees, 2012) He has an autobiography by the name of Hanging From A Tree Made By My Knees, and you can get it on Amazon. I am amazed because I did not know of the majority of these things about him. He is a person that just has a good heart.
The very first phone call to the school, I was sold after talking to a man named John Abraham. We talked for 5 years before I committed to Full Sail. John and I had a very special relationship. This is when there was not a Full Sail website with videos and knowledge about the school. So you really had to get to know the representative back then. This man know everything about me and when I got there, I was happy to meet the man who I had talked to for all those years. I was in awe for at least 4 months still pinching myself that I was at Full Sail University.
Fast forward to 2012 and I am graduating again from this great school and I believe that I have the tools to move forward in the entertainment industry. I know it will take a lot of hard work and that nothing will come free in this world, so I must go and get it. I appreciate all the staff at the university because everyone was very professional and passionate about teaching the next generation of entertainment professionals.
To the graduating class of 2012, I hope you all find you way. And to all that are interested here is a video to get you to the front door:
